I was born the eldest daughter in a large family of six children. Father, bless his soul, was proud of us all, but I suspect he was always slightly disappointed mother never gave him a son. Regardless, he had five fine daughters he saw married off to well-to-do husbands, and they raised children of their own. Alas, I was always too outspoken; too inquisitive. I was far too interested in the scientific discussions the gentlemen held in the library (and it horrified my mother at that last party, when I was so bold as to participate). Why should a lady not speak her opinion?
According to my mother, and my sisters, this is why I ended up a spinster. Which is fine by me.
I am far less delicate in nature than most women of society, and far more intelligent. My inquisitive nature and my interest in science has led me to my discovery and my own business (Oh, the scandal!):
Essence of Child
I've seen my siblings grow up. I've seen their own offspring. I've wished many times I could bottle that energy and sell it.
I did.... I really did it!
Don't ask me how. I'll never tell, other than to say I didn't harm a hair on my nieces or nephews heads. They are family, after all.
I have defied society's expectations of what a "lady" should be and still remained respectable and maintained my honor. Don't ask me about my age, or how I've managed. Science is a thing of wonder, and we've only tapped the surface.
